Director Venky Atluri revealed that his original project with Suriya was a biography based on the founder of the Maruti car brand. Although Suriya appreciated the concept, the film could not move forward because of unresolved rights issues.
He said, “The script I initially went to narrate to Suriya sir was a biopic. He loved the idea, but there were some rights issues. He was also looking for a family film. Suriya sir told me, ‘I’ve already done two biopics very recently. We’re not getting clarity on the rights, so maybe it’s a sign. Do you have any breezy storylines? It’s been a very long time since I’ve done one.’
I already had the script and narrated the idea of a 40-year-old and a 20-year-old. In the very first narration itself, he loved it, and from then, there was no stopping. It was truly surprising. Thank God for that.”
Venky Atluri added that he wanted to create a warm family entertainer at a time when theatres have been dominated by dark, action-heavy films, hoping to bring family audiences back to cinemas.
