TVK chief Vijay is increasingly being projected as a potential Prime Ministerial contender from South India. In the India Today–CVoter Mood of the Nation survey, Vijay reportedly ranks third among preferred Prime Ministerial candidates, behind Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi. The survey has brought renewed attention to his growing political influence beyond Tamil Nadu.
Thalapathy Vijay’s biggest advantage is the combination of his strong regional base and extraordinary popularity among younger voters. While his political organisation is still expanding, his pan-India cinematic appeal, particularly among youth and Gen Z audiences in North India, could provide him with a broader recognition than many regional leaders. This visibility may help TVK position Vijay as a fresh alternative in national politics.
Interestingly, Vijay has also secured 12.2% support in the opposition leadership race, placing him second behind Rahul Gandhi. Experienced leaders such as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu are not part of this race. The emerging numbers raise a larger question: can Vijay transform his popularity into political strength and eventually realise TVK’s ambitious vision of placing a South Indian leader in Delhi?
