Suriya appears to be adopting a broader South Indian strategy with his upcoming lineup, aiming to strengthen his presence across all four major southern film industries. After Karuppu emerged as a massive blockbuster in Tamil and helped him reconnect with his home audience, the actor has shifted his focus toward projects that also cater to Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada markets through strong regional collaborations.
His upcoming films reflect this approach. Vishwanath and Sons brings together a Telugu director and producer and film is planned for August release, while Suriya47 is being helmed by a Malayalam filmmaker and features music directors and a key supporting cast predominantly from the Malayalam industry.
Meanwhile, Suriya48 is backed by a leading Kannada production house, further expanding his footprint in Karnataka. The project was announced yesterday and it was launched with a grand pooja ceremony. Kayadu Lohar is playing the female lead. TJ Gnanavel is helming the film. Sai Abhyankar is scoring the music. Expectations are high on this Jai Bhim combination.
Many industry observers feel this renewed strategy comes after Kanguva, which served as a turning point in Suriya’s career planning. Rather than relying solely on pan-India branding, the actor now seems focused on building genuine connections with audiences in each southern market. If this approach pays off, Suriya could emerge as one of the few stars with equally strong appeal across Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema.
