The backlash against RaviTeja over his alleged use of the phrase “Muduru Munda” while addressing a young girl at the Irumudi pre-release event is understandable. There is a clear difference between spontaneous stage humour and language that can sound demeaning or inappropriate when directed at a child.

This was a devotional film event built around themes of faith and a father-daughter relationship, making such a remark feel even more unnecessary. This also raises a larger concern about how senior actors conduct themselves at public functions. Similar controversies have shown that a casual line delivered on stage can quickly become a serious issue once clips reach social media.

Veteran actor Rajendra Prasad, for instance, recently faced major criticism for his remarks about MGR at an award function and subsequently issued a public apology. In another case, actor Pawan Singh apologised after an on-stage interaction with actress Anjali Raghav was criticised as inappropriate.

These incidents underline that experience and seniority should come with greater awareness of personal boundaries and the impact of words or actions in public. In the same stage of Irumudi, Ajay Ghosh also couldn’t control his words and said some derogatory curse words on the stage. Even though, the emotion is different, it became a talking point.

For senior stars, the microphone comes with responsibility. Fans may accept light-hearted teasing when everyone involved is comfortable, but remarks involving children, women, religion or personal dignity require considerably more restraint.
