Karthik Subbaraj’s Dorothy could not get a simultaneous release in the Telugu states because of the massive theatrical rollout of The Paradise. With screens and shows largely occupied by Nani’s film across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Telugu release of Dorothy has now been pushed to October 2.
The makers are planning a dedicated promotional campaign in the Telugu states, with the team expected to meet Telugu audiences ahead of the release. Rana Daggubati’s Spirit Media is releasing the film in Telugu.
While the film has generated strong curiosity for its intense trailer and international recognition, Dorothy is simultaneously facing a wave of backlash in Tamil Nadu over its central theme. The controversy stems from the film’s portrayal of sensitive social issues involving friendship, conflict, and the treatment of its female protagonist, with sections of audiences debating whether the subject is too disturbing and emotionally uncomfortable.
