Irumudi is currently enjoying a strong theatrical run, with Ravi Teja’s comeback performance receiving appreciation from audiences. Released on August 21, the film is directed by Shiva Nirvana and produced by Naveen Yerneni and Y. Ravi Shankar under the Mythri Movie Makers banner. The cast features Ravi Teja, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Sai Kumar, Baby Nakshathra, Swasika Vijay, Ajay Ghosh, Ramesh Indira, Rajkumar Kasireddy and others.
The film has now landed in controversy, however, with the Andhra Pradesh Teachers Federation demanding the removal of scenes that allegedly portray government schools and teachers in a disrespectful manner. The federation reportedly objected to the negative portrayal of a government school teacher and pointed out that a school in Sileru, Alluri Sitharama Raju district, appears in the sequences.
They also noted that the uniforms worn by the children resemble those currently used in AP government schools, arguing that the scenes could therefore be seen as more than purely fictional and could hurt the dignity of the teaching profession.
On the technical front, Irumudi has G. V. Prakash Kumar handling the music, Shiva Nirvana has also written the story, screenplay and dialogues. Thus, while Irumudi continues to benefit from its theatrical success and the performances of its ensemble cast, the demand from the teachers’ federation has added an unexpected controversy to the film’s ongoing run.
