No Relief for Jana Nayagan in Court: Only 2 Options?

Thalapathy Vijay’s final film Jana Nayagan has once again failed to secure any legal relief, significantly diminishing its chances of hitting screens anytime soon. With the Tamil Nadu Assembly election announcement expected in the coming weeks, the film’s release plans have hit another roadblock.

The Madras High Court Division Bench has ordered a fresh hearing in the matter, sending the case back to a single judge for an expedited decision. The court has directed that the CBFC be given a proper opportunity to present its case and has asked the production house to amend its plea while formally challenging the Chairperson’s order.

After missing the crucial Pongal window, it is now widely believed that the film will only see a theatrical release once the election process concludes. Industry tracking suggests two possible paths forward for the makers. One option is for the production house to withdraw the case, comply with CBFC guidelines, approach the Revising Committee, obtain certification swiftly, and aim for a February release.

The second option involves continuing the legal battle by adhering to court procedures, with hopes of a favorable verdict, which could push the release to May. Notably, during the 2021 Assembly elections, polling was held on April 6, further reinforcing expectations of a post-election release this time as well.

Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol and others in key roles. The film is produced by Venkata Narayana and directed by a leading filmmaker H Vinoth with music composed by a rockstar Anirudh Ravichander.
