Nithiin and Sreeleela’s highly anticipated heist action-comedy Robinhood finally hit the theatres today. This is the second film in the successful combination of Nithiin and Venky Kudumula after Bheeshma. The film’s revolves around the life of modern-day Robin Hood who unexpectedly transforms from being a thief to the bodyguard of a high-profile client for different purpose. What’s his motive? Why he is Robinhood?
Robinhood is a decent commercial entertainer that sticks to the template from start to end but manages to entertain in parts. The comedy scenes land well in the first half, and the stylish interval fight sequence stands out. Nithiin is comfortably in his zone, delivering a performance that’s solid but not extraordinary, while the chemistry with Sreeleela works well. The second half fails to carry the energy and light hearted emotion that worked in first half.
Venky Kudumula’s direction brings energy to the film, though the overall impact feels a bit underwhelming. The film’s focus on a social message, but the execution doesn’t fully capitalize on its potential. While GV Prakash music and score are just ok. What really shines in “Robinhood” is Vennela Kishore, who brings humor and charm to the film, with his dumbest role.
The scenes between Rajendra Prasad and Vennela Kishore works very well. The antagonist Devadutta is good in his role. The famous cricketer David Warner cameo gets whistles but it is not important to the plot. While the movie has its share of energy and moments of fun, it lacks the punch needed to make it truly entertaining.
