Several actresses who first gained fame and financial success in South Indian cinema later shifted their focus to Bollywood, only to make comments that didn’t sit well with audiences in the South. Recently, Taapsee Pannu found herself in a similar situation.
While speaking about her early career and work experience in her debut Telugu film Jhummandi Naadam, she made remarks that many perceived as sarcastic toward Telugu and other South Indian films. Her comments quickly drew criticism and heavy trolling on social media, with many netizens expressing disappointment over what they saw as dismissive statements about the industry that launched her career.
However, after facing significant backlash, Taapsee appeared to soften her stance. In a recent interaction, she stated that although she worked in Kollywood, it was Telugu cinema that gave her greater popularity and recognition. This marked a noticeable shift in tone compared to her earlier remarks.
Many observers view this as a clear U-turn, suggesting that the change in her narrative came after the wave of negativity and criticism from South Indian audiences. While she has now spoken appreciatively about Telugu cinema, some critics feel the damage from her earlier comments had already been done, and remain skeptical about the sudden change in her stance.
